How much does a wedding DJ cost?
What actually drives the price, and how to compare quotes so you're comparing the same thing.
Most DJs won't tell you — so here's ours, in writing
It's the first thing almost every couple searches for, and most suppliers make you fill in a form to find out. Ours is published: our wedding evening reception is £595, the afternoon and evening is £975, and the full day from ceremony to last dance is £1,195 — all with setup, soundcheck and breakdown included.
Quotes elsewhere vary so widely because they rarely cover the same thing — hours, setup, travel, lighting and microphones are often left out, and the real figure arrives later. Below is what genuinely moves the number, so you can compare like for like.
There's also a checklist for comparing the quotes you're collecting — and you can see every one of our prices, travel bands and booking terms on our pricing page.
Seven things that change a wedding DJ quote
Hours on the night
The single biggest driver. A three-hour evening slot and a full day from ceremony to last dance are very different jobs — and the setup and pack-down either side of them takes hours more.
Sound and lighting spec
A pair of small powered speakers and a touring-grade rig with a synchronised moving-head light show sit at opposite ends of the scale. Bigger or more difficult rooms need more capable kit.
Travel and access
Distance, congestion and crossing charges, tricky load-ins and overnight stays all feed into a quote. They should be priced in up front, not invoiced afterwards.
Date and season
Peak-season Saturdays and bank holidays are the most in-demand dates of the year. Midweek and off-season weddings usually have more flexibility.
Guest count and venue
A hundred guests in a barn and three hundred in a ballroom need different amounts of sound coverage — and marquees often need extra planning around power and weather.
Extras and add-ons
Uplighting, extra performance hours and additional services all change the total. Anything optional should be listed separately so you can see exactly what you're choosing.
Professional overheads
Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance and a written agreement are not free — but they're what stops a bad night becoming your problem.
Eight things to check before you compare prices
Two quotes are only comparable when they cover the same work. Ask every DJ you're considering:
- 1Exactly how many performance hours are included, and what happens if the night overruns.
- 2Whether setup, sound-check and pack-down are inside the fee or billed separately.
- 3The sound and lighting specification — and whether it suits the size and shape of your room.
- 4Whether travel, parking, congestion or crossing charges are already included.
- 5Whether wireless microphones and announcements for speeches and the first dance are covered.
- 6Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance, with proof of cover on request.
- 7What backup exists if a piece of equipment fails mid-set.
- 8The deposit amount, the balance due date, and whether both are written down before you pay.
How DFRACTD prices a wedding
We quote each wedding individually, because the honest number depends on your day. Tell us the date, the venue, roughly how many guests and the hours you have in mind, and we'll come back with one clear figure.
Every booking includes a full DJ set on a touring-grade RCF rig, professional wireless microphones, light-touch MC duties for announcements, and a synchronised moving-head light show automated to the music — plus setup, sound-check and pack-down. Travel, timings and any add-ons are priced into your booking confirmation before you pay a penny.
A 30% deposit secures your date, and the balance is due no later than 28 days before the wedding. You'll pay securely through your client portal, where you can also review and e-sign your agreement.
